About Us
At Downeast Boxes, we are dedicated to providing high quality hardwood humidors at competitive prices. Each of our heirloom products is made of native, sustainably harvested, top quality Maine hardwood. We don't use any plywood, veneer, particle board or fillers. Our commitment is to quality and value. Every humidor has a hand carved top and base, hardwood walls at least 7/8" thick, a full Spanish Cedar lining and a furniture quality finish. We make our custom boxes carefully and slowly, entirely by hand, although we do use power tools.
Our woodworkers have many years of experience, both as woodworkers and as humidor users and owners. We are students of humidor construction, always seeking to improve our knowledge and technique through education, research, testing and practical experience.
It takes about three weeks to make a humidor. Compare that to a factory where they feed sheets of particle board into a machine and an hour later, a shiny humidor appears a hundred yards away at the end of an assembly line. Our products are truly handmade, one at a time, with no assembly line or mass production techniques. Our custom humidors and boxes are intended to be modern heirlooms that will last more than a lifetime and be in your family for generations.
